Our hour-long boat ride was smooth over calm waters. We traveled in a colorful red and blue flat boat with a broad white canopy. The motor sped us with the wind in our hair toward our destination. The sounds of the lake were drowned out by the motor, but the views were grand and calm. Lago Cocibolca is the largest lake in Nicaragua, and is only a little smaller than the island of Puerto Rico. It covers 8,264 square kilometers, and is up to 60 meters deep in some places. Looking out across the lake in our small boat, Lago Cocibolca seemed more like an ocean!
